Coffee Water: The Invisible Variable Killing Your Cup

You can dial in perfectly and still get a flat cup if your water is wrong. Water is 98% of what ends up in the cup, and scale from hard water is the leading cause of dead espresso machines.

Know your starting water

Hard, high-mineral water scales your boiler and mutes flavor. Very soft or distilled water tastes hollow and can corrode. The target is a moderate mineral content with low temporary hardness: enough to extract, not enough to scale.

The three fixes

Mineral packets built for a zero-TDS base give you repeatable brew water. Inline softeners and filter pitchers reduce hardness straight from your tap. Which you pick depends on your starting water, so test it first, then choose.
