›Is WDT actually worth it?
It's arguably the highest-ROI technique in espresso. Stirring the grounds with fine needles breaks up clumps and evens density before tamping, measurably improving extraction uniformity. Any well-made needle tool works, thin needles (≤0.4mm) matter more than brand.
›Do I need a distribution tool AND a tamper?
No. WDT plus a good tamp covers what a spinning distributor does, many baristas consider distributors cosmetic. If you're choosing, buy a WDT tool and a quality flat tamper first.
