The basket, is the head, it is all one piece of stainless steel. Its thoughtful design allows it to rest flat on any countertop, eliminating the hassle of balancing it off the edge while tamping, as is common with traditional portafilters. Both the FKM Rubber and Solid Teak handles feature a robust stainless steel core, ensuring durability, weight, and strength built to last a lifetime. All handles have a solid stainless steel core to give them heft and longevity. That is covered either by a thick FKM rubber sleeve, or a cored-out piece of solid teak wood sanded and finished with a German non-VOC oil. The Motivation behind the Unifilter Traditional portafilters with baskets fashioned from stamped metal suffer from one thing; flex. When the basket flexes under pressure from your machine, the flow distribution focusses on the centre of the puck, creating an uneven extraction where the centre of the puck is over-extracted, and the outside of the puck left under-extracted. Unifilter kills two birds with one stone. To significantly, to the point of nearly eliminating, reduce basket-flex and therefore centre over-extraction. And to merge the basket with the head, to increase overall thermal capacity and stability during extraction.
