Sumatra is located in the Indonesian Isles, South and East of India. Each season we sample several coffees from this area to determine which coffee we feel is worthy of being in our lineup. We have found that a medium dark roast typically produces the best cup with these coffees. To brew into a 1-Gallon airpot, use 200 grams on a medium to coarse grind. If the brewed coffee tastes overly watery, weak or thin, make your grind a little finer. A 5lb Bag should yield roughly 11 1-Gallon airpots. If you are brewing smaller batches, the general rule of thumb is: The less coffee being used, the finer the grind can be, so brewing a 2.2 liter airpot would require a finer grind than brewing a 3.8 Liter (1 Gallon) airpot. Contender Coffee is roasted daily, so you can rest assured that when you receive your coffee, it is fresh.
