First Stage: Melt-blown Polypropylene Sediment Filter The sediment filter cartridge is often the first filter cartridge installed in the Reverse Osmosis circuit and the first stage to filtrate water. Ronaqua's sediment filters are produced from fine melted polypropylene, which is then blown and spun into a sort of cylindrical form. The primary operation of a sediment filter is to remove large, unwanted fine particles from drinking water, such as sand, dirt, silt, and rust particles. Removal of such particles allows Carbon Block and GAC filters to work normally and performance much better. Lifetime: Replace two or three times a year depending on water quality. Second Stage: Pleated Sediment Filter The second stage in this system is Ronaqua's pleated sediment water filter which effectively reduces sand, dirt, silt, rust, and scale particles in residential and commercial water. Pleated sediment filters are made of resin-impregnated cellulose and polyester media pleated around a polypropylene core for strength. These materials trap suspended particles, block microbes and absorb unwanted chemicals or substances that cause a chemical change to the water, such as acid neutralization. The pleated design provides an amplified surface area that may extend the filter’s life while removing undesirable particles and chemicals from the water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, and biological processes. A significant advantage of pleated filters is that they protect against a lower pressure drop and allow increased water flow rates. Overall, pleated cartridges outperform standard wound, spun, and melt blown filters because of their reusability saving you time and money. They are washable and reusable.
